Teacher Byrd

Sex Ed & Relationship Coach

Hello! I'm Teacher Byrd [they/them/theirs/elle], a Sex Education and Relationship Coach committed committed to helping diverse singles and partners achieve healthier communication and more intimacy. I strive to create a safe environment where clients can learn and discuss their goals related to sexual health, relationships, and intimacy. My mission is to be a collaborative advocate to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills they need to make informed decisions about their bodies and relationships.

In my classes and sessions, I emphasize the importance of communication, pleasure, and intimacy. I believe in fostering an open and non-judgmental atmosphere where students feel comfortable asking questions and expressing their thoughts. By addressing myths and misconceptions, I aim to equip my students with the confidence to navigate their sexual health and well-being.

I am a coach, not a therapist. This is a conscious decision. Therapists have been and are apart of systems that have created harm to marginalized groups and utilize the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) in their work. The DSM, up until 2013, would have 'diagnosed' a transgender individual with a 'disorder.' Also, many folks who come to see me do not have an issue that is even in the DSM. As a coach, I am able to bypass these structures that have created inequities for marginalized communities and work with individuals for who they are by co-creating fluid, adaptable paths towards clients goals.

My areas of expertise include troubleshooting pleasure, women's pleasure and health, queerness, disability, neurodiversity, and chronic illness. I am also the only sexual health expert who specializes in Myalgic encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) and Long Covid.

I have training from the Institute of Sexuality Education and Enlightenment [ISEE], the Sexual Health Alliance [SHA], and the Gottman Institute.

What is an ME/CFS Expert?

Teacher Byrd from Sex Ed with Byrd is the only sexuality and relationship professional who is an expert in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome / Myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS) and Long COVID.

My journey as a sexuality professional specializing in these conditions began with a deeply personal and frustrating experience—one that mirrors the challenges faced by countless others living with chronic illness. I started feeling symptoms long before I had a name for what was happening to my body. Fatigue, pain, brain fog, and a host of other inexplicable symptoms became a part of my everyday life, but despite visiting multiple doctors, I couldn’t find anyone who could explain what I was experiencing. Worse, many of them didn’t believe me at all, suggesting it was "just stress" or something psychological. This dismissal is a reality that far too many people with chronic conditions face: not only do their symptoms go untreated, but their experiences are invalidated, leaving them feeling isolated and unheard.

For a long time, I felt trapped in this cycle of searching for answers while being told that nothing was wrong. It wasn't until much later that I discovered my condition had a name—Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS)—a debilitating illness that is still widely misunderstood in medical communities. This experience of not being believed or properly diagnosed deeply influences the way I approach my work now. I know how difficult it can be to advocate for yourself when your body doesn’t fit into clear-cut medical definitions, and this is something I bring into my practice.

Having lived through this experience, I’ve become not just a sexuality professional, but an advocate for those whose realities aren’t always acknowledged by the medical world. My approach is to create a space where clients feel validated, heard, and supported in their experiences—whether it’s their sexual health or their overall wellbeing. This personal understanding shapes my commitment to helping others navigate sexuality in the context of chronic illness, while also empowering them to reclaim pleasure, intimacy, and connection on their own terms, despite the challenges they face.
Lived experience expertise is something vastly important in today's society. So while I am not a doctor nor a researcher specializing in ME/CFS nor Long COVID, I feel as though lived experience and independent research are as, if not more, important in the sexuality education context.

My Services

Sex Ed with Byrd offers a variety of coaching services including relationship coaching, one-on-one coaching, workshops, group sessions, and services for other coaches. Sessions usually take place virtually anywhere in the world. Occasionally, I will do in-person workshops within the Pacific Northwest. Sessions with individuals or couples usually last 45-55 minutes on a weekly, every-other-week, monthly, or as-needed basis. Services for other coaches can include sessions or may just include written or video feedback.

I usually work with men and women troubleshooting pleasure, queer and trans folks, disabled, chronically ill, and neurodivergent folks, couples/relationships, and those who need an empathetic and informed ear that can provide expertise and guidance.

My work embodies values that depart from structurally oppressive and colonial structures. I work from an anti-racist lens which embodies anti-capitalism, queerness, disability justice, empathy and acceptance.
